The Original Whisky Ventures Ride
Rising from the metaphoric ashes of the Covid lockdowns, the Whisky Ventures Ride was born.
"Having been cooped up for so long when my life and work often revolved around travelling was mentally very difficult. During those months of endless laps around my village I thought about past adventures around the World and how I wanted to get back to them, but now having children meant other responsibilities. So could I create a major challenge/adventure, but closer to home.
After moving to Scotland in 2011, I have certainly become a fan of the amber nectar the country is famous for. The varieties and styles achieved from just three ingredients is mesmerising to me. Bringing together my passion for travel and adventure, with the whiskies of Scotland became my light at the end of the covid tunnel. Planning the Whisky Ventures Ride, i.e. cycling from the bottom to the top of Scotland via every operating distillery, gave me something to focus on during the lockdowns when I lost all my work.

The Mission
Starting mid-May 2022, I challenged myself to cycle the length and breadth of Scotland, via every operating single malt distillery in the country to raise money in aid of two charities, Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance and the Scottish regions of the charity Cash for Kids. The ride started at the Bladnoch Distillery near Wigtown, Dumfries and Galloway, and finished at the Saxa Vord Distillery on the Isle of Unst, Shetland; a journey of approx 2300 miles (3600km).
Along with simply travelling the eye watering distances involved, it is hoped each distillery visited will donate at least one bottle of whisky to a central event collection, creating a unique whisky collection containing a bottle from every distillery in Scotland. This will then be auctioned after the ride, further raising funds for the charities. Keep an eye on the website and social media after the ride for more information!
